The Border Line is an experimental cultural initiative established by Alana Hunt. It fosters creative and critical discourse in the north-west of Australia through film screenings, events, discussions and interdisciplinary cultural practice and research.
Conceptually The Border Line has emerged from a broad interest in the porosity of borders, those that lie between nations, people, and disciplines. Geographically The Border Line takes shape on Miriwoong country which exists on both sides of the Western Australia and Northern Territory border. Temporally speaking The Border Line is in no rush.
For decades phenomenal amounts of ‘art’ and ‘cultural material’ have been exported from this region to the world. While this has met some great success there is relatively little space for art and cultural discourses, from here or elsewhere, to circulate locally. The Border Line is motivated by a desire to gradually shift this dynamic.
